WOMEN IN BUSINESS at Cheltenham Festival

On the 9th of October this year, Love Love Film’s Georgina Hurcombe was invited to the Cheltenham Literature Festival by HSBC, for the HSBC Woman in Business Event at the festival.

For ten days every Autumn Cheltenham is transformed into the literary lovers paradise as over 600 of the world’s finest writers, actors, politicians, poets and leading opinion formers are welcomed to help celebrate the joy that is the written word.

During the festival Georgie attended an audience with Emma Bridgewater as a guest of HSBC for the Woman in Business Event at the festival. Emma is a product designer who started her now multi million pound business in 1985 when she was trying to find a suitable present for her mother on her birthday. Since then Emma Bridgewater has evolved to produce so much more than just pottery with the website offering a variation of household goods from toasters to radios to stationary. Mrs Bridgewater today is currently worth an estimated £14 million and her business is absolutely booming.

Following the hour long talk held by Emma Bridgewater held at the Sunday Times Theatre Georgie was invited to enjoy a three course meal with Thomasina Miers who won the cooking show Masterchef in 2005 and now owns her own chain of Wahaca restaurants. “Tommi” although being an English cook specialises in Mexican influenced cuisine and of course it goes without saying that the meal was thoroughly enjoyable. Overall a fantastic day was had and a lot was gleaned about the actual day-to-day pressures of being a modern day business tycoon.
