Back to the Future Pinball machine – creativity, play and our team culture

Our in-house animator, Sunny holds the office highscore of 4.7 million in Pinball. Yes, Pinball!

Our new favorite addition to the office is our recently acquired Back to the Future Data East Pinball machine complete with retro sounds effects, music and characters from the films.

Being one of a very few in the UK (only ours is registered in the UK on the Internet Pinball Serial Number Database), we love our original 80s, 1 of only 3000 produced, box of wonder!

The machine does not only look and play amazing, but is a great way to de-stress, wind down, share time as a team engaging, which in turn results in better creative ideas, trust, friendships and team bonding.  One of our first activities with our placement students is to get them to have a go and see if they can beat Kingpin Sunny’s score!

This is one of many things we have done to accomplish our goals for our creative environment at Lovelove Films. Our goals are:

  1. Make our studio fun and a place employees want to work, rather than have to work.
  2. Allow our team to express themselves fully through their personal workspaces.
  3. Use the office space to remind employees why they work for the company and as a source of inspiration.

A great talk on the importance of ‘play’ in the workspace is Tim Browns ‘Tales of creativity and play’ TED talks presentation where he discusses the powerful relationship between creative thinking, play and its links to innovation in work.

Being a production company where clients come to us on a daily basics asking for innovative concepts, narrative, animations, and films its really important our team can feel free to express their creative ideas.

So far our pinball machine is going down a storm with our clients, who often want a game after meetings. However none of them have managed to top Sunny’s score (we think it is because Sunny has been secretly practicing during late night renders). However Jamie from This is Crowd gave it a good shot yesterday.
