LoveLove Films wins Davey Award for Coastwise!

LoveLove Films are delighted to announce that our animated musical safety video Coastwise has been selected by The Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts to receive a 2017 Davey Award!

The Davey Awards is an international creative award focused exclusively on honouring outstanding creative work from the best small agencies worldwide. The 13th Annual Davey Awards received nearly 4,000 entries from ad agencies, interactive agencies, production firms, in-house creative professionals, graphic designers, design firms and public relations firms.

Coastwise was conceived when LoveLove Films were approached by Dorset Coast Forum and Safewise to create an educational and entertaining animated film designed to instil in viewers an appreciation for staying safe on the coast. Coastwise has won a 2017 Silver Davey Award under the category of Film/Video-Education.

After being commissioned by Dorset Coast Forum, LoveLove Films set to work creating an animation that would convey 20 key objectives relating to coastal safety and began a process of storyboarding and working with focus groups of children to ascertain the most effective way to deliver the message of safety awareness. After testing a number of concepts, it was decided that a quirky and humorous animation with accompanying music would be the most effective way to engage children and instil the notion of being safe by the sea.

LoveLove Films devised the concept of a group of sea creatures that would get into various situations by the coast, and through visual cues and song explain to the audience what they should do in the event of each type of emergency. LoveLove Films commissioned musician Momo:Tempo to work alongside our team in developing a quirky song. Dorset Coast Forum wanted to illustrate the wide range of potential issues that could arise for children and parents who either live near, or who are visiting the coast. These included hazards such as deep water, high and low tides, changeable weather conditions, big waves, UV rays, sand tunnels as well as dangerous cliff edges, sharp and/or slippery rocks and wildlife (such as jellyfish, weever fish and other wildlife).

Coastwise was launched at SafeWise Bournemouth on 27th June 2017. Attendees included key partners in the project; Dorset Coast Forum, LoveLove Films, Fine Family Foundation, Chief inspector Guy Shimmons of Dorset Devon and Cornwall Police force, and the RNLI as well as the children from Courthill Infant School, who viewed the film from a boat with lifejackets on and took a quiz on what they learnt. Coastwise was then released online and currently has over 50,000 views on YouTube!

On winning the award, LoveLove MD Georgina Hurcombe states, “We are absolutely thrilled to have won a Davey Award for producing Coastwise! When Dorset Coast Forum first approached us we knew it was going to be a really fun project but also challenging due to the fact we had to fit in 20 safety messages in such a short video – although I think the most challenging part has been trying to get the amazingly catchy song composed by Momo:Tempo out of our heads. All of us at LoveLove thoroughly enjoyed working on Coastwise so it’s really great that it’s getting recognition! I’m super proud of the whole team!”

Coastwise will be shown as a learning and educational resource at coastal visitor centres, schools and as part of educational packages. Through the use of brightly coloured, memorable characters and engaging music and lyrics, it is anticipated that through this project safety at the coast will hopefully become as integral a part of visiting the beach as a bucket and spade!
