LoveLove Films run TV advert workshop for Bournemouth University students

This week, LoveLove Films have been running a number of workshops for Bournemouth University 3rd year BA Digital Media Design students all on the topic of TV adverts.

Here at LoveLove Films, we’re extremely proud of all our links to the local community, both in Bournemouth and Dorset as a whole. Not only are we committed to nurturing the talent of the next generation of local students, but we also understand the importance of supporting them to help them gain some invaluable industry experience, which is why we take on 25-30 placements every year with our New Talent placement scheme.

In the workshop, which was titled; ‘TV Adverts: what you need to know’, we covered every aspect that goes into creating a TV advert, including a detailed breakdown of LoveLove Films’ concept to completion workflow. We invited the university to visit LoveLove Films’ home, Cincechrome Studios to partake in the workshop.

Our Managing Director Georgina Hurcombe, Writer Oliver Selby and Production Co-ordinator Faith Glenister took the workshops, whilst Digital Media Design lecturer Mik Parsons sat in asking just as many questions as the students!

We began the workshop by asking the question; ‘How do you think you’d go about creating a TV advert?” We then discussed all the factors that go into creating TV adverts, for example writing a script and creating the animation or filming the live action.

From this, we detailed in on the different aspects that go into creating a TV advert that aren’t usually thought about; the challenge of spec work, the limitations of live action, how to interpret briefs and the Clearcast process.

We spoke about some of the highlights of our ever-growing list of TV advert campaigns over the past 7 years (we just celebrated our 7th birthday!)

Lecturer Mik Parsons said of the workshop; “The students found it really interesting – as did I! A real insight into the process of advert creation.”

Our Managing Director Georgina said; “It was really great getting to talk to these students about what we do and how we do it, and we look forward to seeing how they progress in this industry!”

We look forward to many more opportunities with our local educational institutions. Our successful New Talent placement scheme, which takes between 25-30 placements every year, will continue into 2017, as will all our ties with local schools and universities, including Bournemouth University, Arts University Bournemouth, Bourne Academy and many more

Our New Talent placement scheme has proved to be a roaring success; LoveLove Films won the Business Engagement with Education Award at the Dorset Business Awards 2015, and many of those placement students have gone on to work with us either full-time or as paid freelancers.

Many of the LoveLove team are alumni of local schools, colleges and universities – including our Managing Director Georgina Hurcombe, DCCI Business Woman of the Year 2013-14 & Bournemouth University graduate. We know what fantastic institutions of learning these places are, and that is just one of the reasons as to why we are so passionate about doing our bit to help the local student population fulfill their potential and go on to make Dorset an even greater place to live and work!
