‘Martin Clunes: Riding Therapy’ produced by LoveLove Films to air on sky for Horse & Country TV

LoveLove Films are delighted to announce that the half-hour one-off documentary ‘Martin Clunes: Riding Therapy’, which using horses as a way to develop key life skills amongst young people with learning difficulties, will air on Horse and Country TV, Sky Channel 253 at 9pm on Tuesday 28th March.

The documentary follows a group of students who live and study at the Fortune Centre of Riding Therapy (FCRT). The centre, situated in the New Forest, is a specialist-learning centre for young people with learning difficulties that use their passion for horses as the basis of their specialised curriculum. Students are taught and guided by a dedicated team of staff who are specially trained in working with young people who have complex and often debilitating conditions such as Downs Syndrome, Asperger’s and Autism.

‘Doc Martin’ and ‘Men Behaving Badly’ star, Martin Clunes, who is an extremely keen horseman and president of the BHS (British Horse Society), fronts the documentary, which sees him interact with several students and even at one point participate in horse vaulting.

Among the people Martin meets during the show are Adam, who has learning difficulties and problems with social interaction but has gone on to work successfully in the equine industry; and Daisy, who has Autism as well as Prader-Willi Syndrome. Daisy’s time at the centre has seen a great improvement in her health and mental wellbeing, as well as her ability to interact and socialise with others.

“Riding therapy offers an effective way of developing new habits, new life and work skills and greater personal reliance. For these young people, riding therapy has changed their lives forever,” says Clunes.

Even before the filming commenced, we at LoveLove Films worked with Martin Clunes and the Fortune Centre of Riding Therapy to deliver a workshop with the young people who live with learning difficulties. We were keen to gain a deeper understanding of the lives of the students, as well as finding key contributors for the documentary.

The students of the Fortune Centre for Riding Therapy were very open and honest in their discussions about the daily challenges they faced, as well as the huge difference horse therapy has made to the lives of the students and their families.
